  • Innovation in Action: STEM Micro:bit Challenge - The purpose of this semester-long project was to provide STEM students with a hands-on opportunity to apply technology, engineering, programming, and problem-solving skills to a real-world scenario of their choosing. They researched, prototyped, created, and delivered a presentation on their work to families and community members at STEM Night.
  • Twin Rivers had 183 8th graders participate in the Nordson Tech Time Challenge. Our own teacher leader rewrote the prompt for all 8th grade students participating in the competition and 3 Twin Rivers students’ submissions were selected as winners of the prize packages.
  • Five TRMS teachers were awarded Jackson EMC Bright Idea Grants totaling $8,755.00.
  • The TRMS Reader’s Rally team won their division and moved forward to compete in the county competition. All students who completed the Spring Reading Challenges (Read Across America and Passports to Empathy) were invited to the media celebration, which included a free book from the Book Mobile, treats, and time to read.
  • The Twin Rivers Middle School Academic Team won 6 out of 7 games at Academic Team Regionals and moved forward to State Championships. Twin Rivers was one of six teams moving forward to the State Championships out of 18 teams.
  • The Twin Rivers FLBA members attended the Regional Leadership Conference, where members attended mini-workshops, networked with other middle school students, ate dinner together, and attended the awards ceremony. Students studied and tested online for FBLA State events. Twin Rivers MS was recognized as the 3rd largest chapter in the region, and all students who tested moved on to State. Students attended the State Leadership Conference in Covington, GA, where they participated in 3 Leadership Sessions: Lead Like a Champ, Nice to Meet You, and Lighting a Trail of Teamwork.
  • Twin Rivers Middle School launched our PBIS program! We created a matrix for common areas, started a virtual school store where students traded in behavior points for rewards, and created opportunities to recognize individual students meeting and exceeding our schoolwide expectations of Respect, Responsibility, and being an Effective Communicator.
  • Twin Rivers proudly submitted 19 projects to the Gwinnett Regional Science, Engineering + Innovation Fair. Two students from TRMS earned the top score for all middle school projects in GCPS! These two students won $500 and were featured on GCPS TV. In the various categories, Twin Rivers had five 1st place winners, five 2nd place winners, and three 3rd place winners.
  • At Dramarama, a conference of almost 400 middle school students, TRMS students performed a condensed version of School House Rock Live Jr and earned the 3rd place trophy! The team of 18 actors also took home Best Tech! Two students took home gold medals for their work as Dance Captains and two additional students won All Star Cast awards.
  • The TRMS 8th Grade Band attended the GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluation earning an overall Superior rating for their stage performance and a Superior rating in their sight-reading performance. Seven band students participated in the GMEA Solo & Ensemble spring event. Each soloist and/or ensemble member earned Superior and/or Excellent ratings for their performance(s). One TRMS Band student earned a seat in the Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Band, and two students made their seat in the Georgia Music Educators Association District XIII Honor Band for the 2022-2023 school year. The 7th and 8th Grade Chorus students received straight superiors in sight singing and performance at the Large Group Performance Evaluation. Twenty-three TRMS chorus students participated in GMEA District 13 Honor Chorus in October. Three TRMS chorus students were accepted into the GMEA All-State Chorus. One student earned a perfect score across her entire audition! Mr. Hannon, the TRMS Chorus Director, and Ms. Mattson, the Band Director, presented at the Georgia Music Educators Conference. The 7th and 8th Grade Twin Rivers Orchestra students earned straight Superior ratings at District 13’s Large Group Performance Evaluation—one 8th-grade student performed with the Kendall Orchestra (County Honor Orchestra). Two 8th-grade students and one 7th-grade student participated in the District Middle School Honor Orchestra. Thirty students participated in the 6th Grade County Honors Orchestra. Ten students performed in the county-wide Violapalooza.
