Council Update from the January Meeting:

Quorum was not met, therefore, official business was unable to be conducted.

Major discussion points:

The 2017 bylaws amendment to the terms of service for the elected officers, which had been approved by the outgoing Georgia PTA bylaws chair to be active for the current term, has since been rescinded by the current Georgia PTA Bylaws Chair and Executive Board of Georgia PTA. Verbiage in the Georgia PTA bylaws has led to a discussion regarding the effective date of the term of service, even though it was the intent of the Area 2 Council membership who voted in 2017, for the elected officers to serve a 2 year term through 2019. Without quorum at this January Council membership, the membership could not vote on a decision, nor could a nominating committee be elected, should that have been the consensus of the membership. Another General Membership meeting will be called to have the membership decide on what happens next with the Area 2 Council Leadership.

There are still 2 open positions available on the Council Board of Directors – Treasurer and Vice-President of Membership. We are looking to fill this vacancy for the remainder of the term, which according to Georgia PTA is through May 2018. We have audited the Treasurer’s books, and so we are just looking for you!

If you would like to submit the name of someone who may be able to fill either of these roles, please email us at secretary@area2gwinnettpta.org.

The official minutes from the January 2018 Council meeting will be posted. Please contact the Area Council Presidents, Shauna Young  and Taiwannika Walker, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this meeting.

Area 2 – Gwinnett Council of PTAs serves 46 local units in the Collins Hill, Duluth, Lanier, Mountain View, Norcross, North Gwinnett, and Peachtree Ridge clusters, including the Gwinnett School of Math, Science, and Technology, and the Georgia charter school, Ivy Preparatory Academy-Gwinnett.

Area 2 Council Executive Officers
The membership voted at the 2017 Spring Banquet to amend the Area 2 Council Bylaws to change the term of service from 1 year to 2 years for the Council Executive Board and Committee Chairs. The Amendment request was submitted to Georgia PTA for approval to go into effect for the upcoming school year. This would mean that the elected Council  officers will serve in office from 2017-2019, to align with the service terms of the other Area Councils in District 12, the District 12 Offices, and the Georgia PTA state board.
Council Dues were due on September 30, 2017. Click here for the 2017-18 Council Dues form.
