College and Career Development
College and Career Development Story
College and Career Development (CCD) is one department made of two offices: The office of Academies and Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education (ACTAE) and the office of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computer Science (CS). These two offices work together to accomplish the mission and vision of the department by providing shared teacher supports, resources, funding, and school supports. Separately, each office provides more specific supports based on its mission/vision. The Office of ACTAE supports CTAE programs in the 6-12 space, CTSO co-curricular experiences and competitions, high-quality Work-Based Learning experiences, and college and career readiness in Academy high schools. The Office of AI and Computer Science supports K-12 computer science programs (including 6-12 CS teachers who may be in the CTAE department of their school), competition robotics, and the AI-Ready Learning pilot.
The department of College and Career Development offers high-quality, inclusive professional learning opportunities and provides differentiated support to local schools. Through this professional development and differentiated support, CCD seeks to continually improve teaching and learning in CTAE and CS classrooms and in the co-curricular experiences designed to enhance students’ authentic learning experiences.
Career Clusters and Pathways
Career clusters allow students to choose a career area of interest in high school. Students are enrolled in classes tailored to the career cluster (see list below), which helps them navigate their way to greater lifetime success. Multiple career pathways make up each career cluster (i.e. STEM’s pathways are engineering, drafting and design, and electronics). Students begin to learn about careers in elementary and middle school, so they are ready to choose a pathway upon reaching high school.
