Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science
The Office of Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science provides supports for the district’s K-12 Computer Science for All (CS4All) program as well as K-12 competition robotics. The office also supports the AI and Future-Readiness initiative in collaboration with other departments. Future-Readiness emphasizes the learning needed for students to be ready for their futures. As advanced technologies continue to impact the workplace and society, GCPS students will be future-ready as informed users and developers of those technologies.
Computer Science for All
We believe all K-12 students deserve access to high-quality and inclusive computer science education in order to build awareness and readiness for future careers, social mobility, and individual expression. Our CS for all goals are:
-
Improve equity and access to computer science education for all students
-
Develop students as learners, users, and creators of computer science knowledge & artifacts
-
Develop student understanding of the role of computing in the world around them
-
Provide students with the knowledge and skills for future and current careers
What does K12 Computer Science look like in Gwinnett County Public Schools?
In alignment with Georgia Senate Bill 108, GCPS Portrait of a Graduate, and GCPS Blueprint for the Future, all GCPS schools will offer computer science courses and relevant experiences outside of the classroom. Currently, 100% of K-12 cluster schools offer computer science programs. We will continue to develop plans to increase access so that all students can participate in computer science courses. CS learning is collaborative, creative, and real-world problem-based. Learning focuses on five main content categories across the K-12 spectrum:
Exposure • Exploration • Experience

AI and Future-Readiness in GCPS
AI is rapidly changing industries and how we interact. To be prepared for the college and career opportunities of today and the future, students must be AI-Ready. AI-Readiness ensures that students can thrive in their futures. Students are learning to be ethical and responsible users, developers, and decision-makers of AI.
What does AI-Future Readiness look like in Gwinnett County Public Schools?
GCPS is focused on ensuring that each and every student is prepared for their future. In addition to our district wide Computer Science for All program, we launched a K-12 AI Ready pilot in the Seckinger cluster of schools in 2019. AI Ready learning includes both discrete and embedded AI learning experiences to build literacy and technical skills related to AI. All K-12 students in the pilot experience embedded AI-Ready learning across content areas through the lens of the AI Learning Framework. High school students have the option to participate in the three-course discrete AI pathway, which dives beyond literacy to rigorous technical learning for those students interested in an AI developer career. GCPS is committed to innovation and excellence to prepare students for their futures.
How is GCPS Developing AI-Readiness Beyond the Pilot?
We know that AI is rapidly impacting the workforce, society, and even education. GCPS students and staff must be future-ready by understanding AI and demonstrating responsible and ethical use of AI. The GCPS Guidance for Human Centered AI Use is meant to communicate the principles we honor when making decisions around AI use and provide practical guidance and expectations as a system. As AI evolves, the guidance around its use will as well. This guidance was crafted collaboratively, with a variety of partners and stakeholders including students, teachers, school and district leaders, and trusted partners like Digital Promise and EdSAFE AI Alliance.
