Enrichment and Support Programs

The Department of Enrichment and Support Programs within the Division of Teaching and Learning provides leadership and support in ensuring that each and every student has equitable access to instructional programs that maximize their potential. The Division oversees and supports:

  • the development and implementation of Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS), high-quality instructional materials, and effective instructional practices for Fine Arts, Health and Physical Education, and World Languages and Dual Language Immersion (DLI) enrichment courses,
  • Multilingual Learner (ML) and Accelerated and Gifted support programs,
  • the district’s selection of instructional resources, print and digital, to support teaching and learning AKS in each classroom,
  • the comprehensive framework to fully operationalize a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) to address academic student needs,
  • the International Newcomer Center (INC) which serves as first point of contact and provides support for newly arriving international families.

Enrichment and Support Programs leads and supports high-quality teaching and learning through the modeling and application of:

  • the expectations of the AKS,
  • maximization of instructional resources to support the teaching and learning of AKS while optimizing use of the Quality-Plus Teaching Strategies,
  • differentiated instruction that is responsive to individual student learning needs,
  • instructional practices that foster critical thinking, collaboration, effective communication, and creativity for each student,
  • professional learning differentiated to model the teaching cycle, and,
  • instructional coaching cycles to support continuous quality improvement.
