Term Vested

 

If your employment terminates after your Vesting Date for reasons other than death or retirement on a Retirement Date, you shall be entitled to a deferred monthly income commencing at your Normal Retirement Date equal to your Accrued Retirement Benefits determined under Section 4.01 of the Plan as of the date you terminate employment. Please refer to your GRS Retirement Benefits Statement for your GRS vesting status.

GRS Portal

Your most recent GRS Retirement Benefits Statement is available for viewing through the GRS Portal. Be sure to establish your GRS Portal Account for access to your annual statement.

 

When can I begin receiving a Gwinnett Retirement System (GRS) benefit?

When you are:

  • Age 65 (if you have at least 9 months of service)
  • Currently receiving a benefit from a state of Georgia retirement plan, or
  • Age 60 and are eligible to receive a benefit from a state of Georgia retirement plan

If you are vested and are no longer contributing to GRS, it is your responsibility to apply for retirement benefits at the time you become eligible.  You may apply during the 6 months prior to turning age 65, but no later than the month during which benefits are to become effective.  If you do not apply within the required time frame, GRS will not pay any benefits between the time of your first eligibility and the date of your application. Forms

It is important to keep your personal information up to date with GRS. If any of the information about you or your beneficiaries has changed, please fill out the applicable form and mail or fax to Gwinnett Retirement Services Department at 437 Old Peachtree Road NW, Suwanee, GA 30024, fax 678-301-6275.

Prior to completing these forms, please contact the Gwinnett Retirement Services Department at 678-301-6267,    678-301-6269 or 678-301-6274 to confirm you are vested, are eligible for a GRS retirement benefit and understand the retirement application process that is required.

GRS Data Change Form
   This form allows you to inform GRS of a name, email address, mailing address, phone number or other contact information change.

GRS Beneficiary Designation Form
   This form allows you to designate or make changes to your GRS beneficiary(ies).

The Gwinnett Retirement Services Department provides information and services related to all GCPS employee retirement plans, including TRS and PSERS. One-on-one counseling services are available for all prospective retirees to provide information and to assist in the retirement application process. 

Please note: Gwinnett Retirement System (GRS), Teachers’ Retirement System (TRS), and Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) are separate retirement benefit plans.
