     Parv Mahajan, from the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science & Technology (GSMST), and Jillian Vacha, of North Gwinnett High School are Gwinnett County’s 2024 STAR (Student-Teacher Achievement Recognition) Student award winners. The STAR honor is awarded to seniors ranking in the top 10 percent of their class with the highest SAT score. As part of the recognition, the honorees choose a teacher who has significantly impacted their academic journey. Parv selected Julia Rachkovskiy (Engineering) as her STAR Teacher. Jillian chose Andrea Boyce (Science) as her STAR Teacher.

     Students and teachers were recognized during a reception sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) and Partnership Gwinnett. The event recognized more than 75 recipients from 33 schools across various educational institutions, including Buford City Schools, Gwinnett County Public Schools, Greater Atlanta Christian School, Hebron Christian Academy, Killian Hill Christian School, Notre Dame Academy, Providence Christian Academy, Sugar Hill Christian Academy, and Wesleyan School. Local sponsors include Partnership Gwinnett, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine- Georgia Campus, Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation, and Peach State Federal Credit Union.

    The 2024 Gwinnett County STAR Students and Teachers winners will now move on and compete for the regional title. Regional winners move to the state level to contend for the honor of being named Georgia’s 2024 STAR Student and Teacher.
