School Highlights

The following school highlights showcase how International Transition Center is fulfilling Gwinnett County Public School's four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. Visit the School Profile Dashboard to find more detailed data on our school.

  • The ITC is located on the campus of 6 Gwinnett County High Schools and serves students who are new to the country and qualify from 28 Countries.
  • The ITC concurrently enrolled over 1,000 students with the 6 Gwinnett County High Schools during the 2022-23 school year.
  • The ITC works to accelerate the acquisition of English and help students earn credits for graduation. The ITC was able to prepare 33 students to transition to full-time status and graduate from their home high school (4 from Berkmar High, one from Central Gwinnett High, one from Discovery High, three from Duluth High, ten from Meadowcreek High, and 14 from Norcross High). One of those students was accepted to the University of Georgia and another was accepted to Oglethorpe University.
  • In an effort to accelerate the student's acquisition of the English language, the ITC utilizes the most effective strategies from the ESOL, Foreign Language, and Dual Language Immersion approaches to language acquisition.
  • To support the improvement of the student's literacy in English, the ITC invited the Book Mobile to come in the Fall and the Spring. Every ITC student can choose a high-interest book of their own each visit. For many of the students, these are their first books in English.
  • Throughout the year, the ITC hosts "Read with Me" sessions on Zoom, where ITC teachers do a "Read Aloud" with any ITC student who joins the Zoom session. Students then receive their copy of the book the teacher read during that session. The books are delivered to the student in class during that week.
  • To increase the support the ITC offers families, the ITC hired a Parent Outreach Liaison. As a result, the ITC created Parent Centers on three different campuses and hosted family meetings and workshops throughout the year.
  • To support the mastery of the Science standards, the ITC procured funding to take the students to the Georgia Aquarium. For these students, it was the first time visiting an aquarium, going on a behind-the-scenes tour, and seeing the animals up close.
  • To provide support to student's academic progress the ITC hosts Saturday School Zoom sessions where the students focus on ELA and Math enrichment and remediation.
  • To support ITC students' content and language acquisition and facilitate the students earning credits for graduation, the ITC employs 47 teachers and offers 16 High School courses and 7 Middle School Courses.
