  • In October, McConnell Middle held its second annual Literacy and Learning Festival. This community event promoted the importance of literacy at the middle school level and provided opportunities for students, staff, parents, businesses, community members, and volunteers to showcase their talents. The event included food trucks, crafts, inflatables, games, performances, and showcases from McConnell's Fine Arts, Foreign Language, AgStem, Family Consumer Science, Marketing, Computer Science, Media Arts, and Junior Leadership Corp programs to create a sense of community.
  • The NAfME Electronic Music Composition Competition recognizes outstanding compositions and highlights the effectiveness of music technology in the school curriculum. Teachers and students are invited to submit original student compositions. McConnell Middle School student Milo Hadley was awarded an Honorable Mention for her entry in the annual Electronic Music Composition Competition sponsored by the National Association of Music Educators. Milo was one of three middle school students recognized from across the country.
  • Teacher Heath-Jones received the 2023 TI:ME (Technology in Music Education) Mike Kovins Teacher of the Year Award. Mr. Jones is the author of "Music Technology 101", published by Hal Leonard, one of the finest introductory volumes currently available for Music Technology teachers. Begun in 2005, the Mike Kovins Teacher of the Year Award is a highly prestigious award given by the US's top Music Technology advocacy group - TI:ME, and the award only recognizes the very best of the best.
  • McConnell Middle had eight students that earned "superior" ratings and 2 two students that earned "excellent" ratings at the 2023 Foreign Language Association of Georgia (FLAG) Spoken Language Contest.
  • In 2023, McConnell's Band received straight superior ratings on stage and in sight reading at LGPE. McConnell's Honors Orchestra performed at GMEA and also received straight superior ratings.
  • McConnell's girl's and boy's basketball teams advanced to the Eastern Division semi-finals.
  • McConnell Middle School was designated a "No Place for Hate" school for the 2022-2023 school year by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL). This marks the five consecutive years MMS has earned this distinction.
  • McConnell Middle School offers students the opportunity to engage in various extracurricular activities, offering more than 30 clubs and activities, including robotics, culinary arts, soccer, cross-country, volleyball, radio club, chess, guitar, Beta Club, Thrive, and more. The school's newest club, Todos Unidos, had over 125 students that participated in weekly meetings and events with the purpose of celebrating Spanish-speaking countries' culture and heritage.
  • McConnell Middle is a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. PBIS encourages positive behaviors with recognition for students who exhibit appropriate school conduct.
