- Nine Richards Middle School students completed the rigorous interview process and were selected to participate in the highly competitive C5 Georgia Student Leadership Program. C5 Georgia is a youth development program that prepares at-risk students for academic and community success.
- Richards Middle School exceeded its United Way Goal for the second consecutive year, raising $11234.48 in the annual GCPS fundraising campaign.
- Media Specialist Grisel McDuffie was voted Teacher of the Year and awarded a $2224.00 STEAM Grant from Gas South Company.
- Boys Basketball Coach Ron Hickman was recognized and honored by the school for 30 years as head coach of the boys' basketball team. Coach Hickman is stepping aside as head coach this year. Richards' teams won seven county championships under Coach Hickman's leadership.
- The school's two new Robotics Teams competed in several tournament competitions, with one of the teams reaching the semi-finals in the final middle school tournament at Brookwood High School.
- Richards Middle School was proud to have students Alina Michael and Aaminna Ramiriz selected to represent the school on the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council. This was Alina Michael's second year representing the school on this council.
- Richards Middle School earned a grant from the state of Georgia, allowing the school to purchase new fitness equipment (30 kettle bells) for student use during physical education classes.
- Sixth-grade student Luke Peart outlasted all other 6th-8th grade competitors to capture the School-wide Spelling Bee Championship.
- Head Custodian Dragana Sejdic and Cafeteria Manager Ryan McManus continue to provide distinguished leadership for their respective departments, each earning outstanding scores on inspections and evaluations. Mrs. Sejdic once again earned the GCPS Head Custodian of the Year Award for excellent leadership and performance.
- The Georgia Department of Education awarded Richards Middle School "Operational" status as a PBIS School. The "Operational" designation was only given to ten GCPS middle schools.
